Carrara marble is a type of white or blue-grey marble of high quality, popular for use in sculpture and building decor. It is quarried at the city of Carrara in the province of Massa and Carrara in the Lunigiana, the northernmost tip of modern-day Tuscany, Italy.

It appears that it has been a favoured material since heroes were carved out of it by the ancients. The beauty of this material is its timelessness, however its versatility allows for Carrara marble to be used in modern and current ways. Below, you can see how this material can be used for both wall and floor tiles in the fresh and modern style of the herringbone tile to create a space that is relevant to the current trends yet also unlikely to date.

One of KWDs favourite projects featuring this stunning material is the apartments at 50 Moor Street. Working with boutique property developers Milieu and the innovative builders at Project Group, Kate Walker from KWD specified, sourced and supplied several of the hard finishes incorporated into these 5 brand new apartments.  The apartments were designed by Richmond architectural firm, Neil Architecture.

In the kitchens, elegant Carrara marble was sourced for the bench tops and splashbacks. High quality and timeless, marble appeals to the most discerning eye, whilst remaining chic and stylish. Superb joinery compliments the marble. Timber veneer, crisp white joinery and subtle black elements create an industrial edge whilst still feeling warm and inviting.
