WINDOW FASHION

Lynch’s Window Fashions (LWF) was born from Anthony Lynch’s passion for fashion and for window coverings. Launching in 2014, Anthony realised his desire to operate his own business – bringing his experience and expertise to the market with innovative, quality louvres, curtains, blinds and shutters. Seven years on, Anthony has established a well-respected business that is leading the way in internal and external window fashions for homes across Melbourne.

Explains Anthony, “It’s important with any business to reflect on why you started the business in the first place and what your ambitions were. In the early days when you are getting started there is time to cement what your values are. When the business gets successful, which is of course the goal, life can get so incredibly busy that you can lose sight of your ‘why’.”

I am always conscious of why I started LWF, and my focus was always on providing a tailored one-stop-shop solution for all window furnishing needs, and to provide a level of customer service that hasn’t been experienced before. I wanted people to see window furnishings as an important and exciting part of any new home build or renovation.”

Having worked in the fashion industry, Anthony really wanted to bring a sense of high design and a fashionable element to window coverings. Anthony believes that if you make the wrong decision with interior or exterior window coverings you can seriously alter or detract from the architectural or interior design success of a home.

Many of our clients have large build or renovation budgets, sometimes spending more than $5million on their project, so if you make the wrong design on window coverings from a design point of view you can really undo a lot of the hard work that’s been done,” says Anthony.

Homeowners and designers are developing a strong understanding how important window furnishings are for completing a design vision, and with so many excellent choices on the market it’s easier than ever to achieve the quality design that will complete the design vision.

There is nothing available in the world of window coverings that Anthony doesn’t stock or can’t get access to – from louvres and shutters to awnings and curtains, and every type of blind. In fact on the rare occasion that a client may request an incredibly unique product that they don’t stock, they will source it for you. They will actively seek out best practice suppliers in that industry and start up an account with them.

Explains Anthony, “We want to present a complete offering to consumers, designers, architects and builders. For internal applications our range includes custom and motorised blinds, custom curtains – both block out and sheer, and all types of shutters. And for external applications we work with everything from standard awnings to highly technical and function louvred systems and retractable roofs.”

In fact there is a real growth in the demand for external protection, and to create an outdoor space that is usable all year round. “We’ve seen a major spike in requests for materials and systems that will protect homes from exposure to the elements, and fortunately we aligned ourselves some years ago with a Belgian company who are market leaders in the outdoor shading space. Any outdoor product is engineered to be able to withstand the elements – sun, rain, window and hail. Architects and building designers are paying particular attention to the direction of the sun and are specifying awnings for north and south facing homes to keep them cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Total block out is no longer required to provide protection, in fact open-weave fabrics not only allow filtered light in, they also promote airflow which takes heat away from a window.”

In terms of trends for interior window fashions there is definitely a return to curtains. Whilst LWF still manufacture block out curtains for bedrooms, sheer fabrics are particularly popular. In recent years the minimalistic look of blinds has really suited a lot of houses, but the sheer curtain aesthetic is on the rise for both contemporary and more traditional homes. Fastenings are generally a combination of rod and rings for a more classic look and S-fold treatments are popular too, but they are seeing much more interest in hidden track curtains that are hanging full length from the ceiling. Given few homes have detailed cornices, full length curtains create maximum height and the most luxurious look.

Unlike many larger companies who focus on supply only, at Lynch’s Window Fashions aims to provide clients with a complete service – from initial consultation and design and right through to installation. Their complete installation service ensures that your new products are not only installed with minimal fuss and disruption, the timing is sequenced to work in with other trades and the delivery of project as a whole.

The association between KWD and Lynch’s Window Fashions began some years ago, via a relationship that developed over Instagram and through a mutual supply partner. When Anthony first met Kate and the team there was an immediate bond. “I felt so inspired by Kate and what she and her team were creating, and it’s grown into an amazing friendship as well as a business collaboration. I am so grateful for the association we have created, and I love working on KWD’s incredible projects that encompass such a wide range of design aesthetics.”

Says Kate, “The KWD team has worked closely with Anthony Lynch for a number of years. Our clients expect the best in design, so when it comes to window furnishings we always choose to work with LWF. Their quality workmanship, access to the best fabrics, their attention to details and their understanding of form and function is second to none. KWD and LWF have a shared customer service ethos as well as aligned business principles, which ensures our clients receive the best possible result.”
