Artist in Focus: Katie Carmichael

KWD is renowned for supporting their clients with the process of specifying, sourcing and supplying hard finishes for their projects.  KWD specialises in tiles, natural stone, timber flooring, carpet, joinery, stonemasonry, landscaping stone and pool tiles.  Whilst these aspects of a project are vitally important to the overall look of the finished product, it is often the soft finishes that give a property an element of romance.

After hard finishes are installed, and projects are handed over, it is then up to the client to furnish their dream space.  KWD is often called upon for recommendations for such installations.  When it comes to photographic art installations for residential and commercial properties, KWD regularly turns to the very talented Katie Carmichael of Katie Carmichael Limited Editions.

Gallery 1 Always There #2

Katie started her career as a photographic artist at Melbourne’s Photography Studies College – majoring in fine art. From there, she then went on to work with some of Melbourne’s leading commercial photographers, developing a strong insight and understanding of the commercial aspects of photography. Now she has decided to pursue her creative interest in photography as a solo artist, allowing her to put all her energy into her unique artwork.

“I use my camera as a tool to explore the relentless power and rhythms in nature and its emotive qualities that take us to a place that allows us to reflect, to dream and to pause.” – Katie Carmichael

Angel #2

All of her incredible works are printed as limited editions. The works are framed and printed to the highest archival quality.  She collaborates with clients, using her photographic style to design and create specific works that meet individual concept and space requirements.

Katie also works on individual commissions for both residential and commercial projects

“Working directly with designers and architects to realise a shared creative response to the clients needs is a highly rewarding aspect of my work.” – Katie Carmichael

Gallery 3 Escala insitu

This particular body of work was commissioned by wealth management firm Escala Partners. The Cloudscapes are illuminated in light boxes and reflect the architects’ objective to create a corporate environment that is distinctive in style and memorable for the seamless interplay between the components of the space.

“The client lounge provides the fulcrum of this project and the role of art is central. Katie’s series of cloudscapes responds to the grey and blue tones of the interior with drama and beauty. We loved the process of working with Katie to achieve harmony between the works and the environment they adorn.” – Jarrod Haberfield, Director, Molecule
