PROJECT:  89 Bendigo Street, Richmond

Builder/Stonemason: John Bertuna of Classique Stone and Venetti Kitchens

Architect: David Luck

Working together with superior third generation stonemason, John Bertuna, Kate Walker of KWD has incorporated some rare and exquisite hard finishes into this incredible inner suburban property.

Entrance: Bluestone pavers at the property’s entrance set the tone for the outstanding quality of this home. They are eye-catching as well as extremely hard wearing for a busy thoroughfare.

Main Flooring: Spreading throughout the downstairs areas, Kate has incorporated Italian honed and filled travertine stone tiles in a 600×600 format. The areas include the living, dining, kitchen and laundry zones.

Kitchen: Whilst all rooms in this home are exceptional in their own way, it is in the kitchen where John’s creativity and expertise shine.  No expense was spared, with this room in particular, showcasing his talent.  The incredible bench top is 100mm thick Italian Statuario marble with mitred edging. The island bench top also features a one metre cantilevered section.  A finish inspired by modern Italian design.

Pietra Grigio slabs have been used in the kitchen alcove above the recessed hot plate. The exquisite stone even extends to the ceiling of the alcove. This design showcases John’s unsurpassable workmanship, where hidden steel beams support the suspended slab of marble and overhead cupboards.  An engineering feat.  Saltwood veneer is used for the cabinetry which also features finger pulls and an integrated fridge and freezer.

Powder Room: Statuario slabs are installed in the powder room from mid height to ceiling.  Pietra Grigio forms the integrated stone basins.  All manufactured by John’s team of masons.  It’s truly beautiful.

Bathroom/Ensuite: The bathroom and ensuite combine a mix of Travertine and Pietra Grigio stone slabs to cover the floors and walls. The Pietra Grigio is also used to form the integrated stone basins. The shower bases in both rooms are made from a single piece of specially crafted stone. This involved over 20 hours of work to ensure they were perfectly formed.

  • Beautiful design. I was wondering roughly how wide the Alcove is area is? Im building a similar kitchen with a 75″ long alcove and was concerned if I should add additional light currently only light source in the alcove is from 2 LED’s in the the built-in 28″ hood.
