Luxury and functionality meets high spec design.

KWD was thrilled to hear that Virgon won the 2017 HIA Australian Townhouse/Villa Development award. What a well deserved achievement for this Melbourne based family business.  Established in 1995, Virgon has become a leader in the construction industry with properties across Melbourne’s inner city suburbs and with increasing numbers on the Mornington Peninsula.  Their deep-seated knowledge of the inner suburban real estate market is the foundation on which they have built their success.

Kate Walker has worked on projects with Virgon for over 15 years (since her National Tiles days) and KWD has been involved in numerous Virgon developments since Kate Walker Design was launched in 2013. It has always been a pleasure for Kate and her team to work with Virgon, a boutique residential builder that designs and creates the complete project as the architect, the developer and the builder. As such they are across every level of the project and are totally invested in the outcome.

The HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards annually showcases the creativity, innovation and excellence in construction and design from developers across Australia. Virgon represented Victoria in the Townhouse/Villa development award with their project called ‘Montana’, and in being announced the winner they outshone  nine other finalists from across the country.

This particular build has already proven to be an award winner, having won the 2016 Boroondara Urban Design Award for Best Small Scale Multi-Residential Project, the 2016 Master Builders Award for Best Multi-Residential Development (4-12 Units), the 2016 HIA Award for Townhouse/Villa Development of the Year and the HIA Award for Best Townhouse over $700,001 per dwelling. A very prestigious list indeed, and now they can add the 2017 HIA Australian Townhouse/Villa Development of the Year award to this list of accolades.

D685moun-05Completed in late 2015, ‘Montana’ is a multi-residential project in Mountain Grove, Kew.  The development houses four beautifully designed three bedroom/three bathroom town-homes that were thoughtfully planned and crafted over three lift-accessed levels. The properties individually and collectively reflect today’s modern lifestyle, with serious thought given to Australia’s maturing population who are now considering downsizing from large homes with large gardens, without wanting to compromise on design and quality.  No expense was spared with the ‘Montana’ concept, and the added convenience of a personal lift pushed luxury and functionality to a new level – and showed a mindfulness of the target market.

Virgon’s signature use of natural materials creates a relaxed ambience, with timber screens, concrete feature walls and gas fireplaces – minimising the energy footprint by sourcing local materials where possible.  With an incomparable attention to detail, each high spec property offers keyless entry & video security, a landscaped boardwalk entry, American Oak floors, bespoke metal art & timber features, Italian designed & made bath fittings, Liebherr & Miele appliances, hydronic heating and reverse-cycle air conditioning. Each town-home also features a wine cellar and a theatre room.  The thoughtful design extends to the exterior, with decorative metal screens, Blackbutt Shiplap timber cladding and a timber boardwalk with mature landscape planting.  It was the meticulous detail and superb finishes, that are signatures of all Virgon homes, that contributed to the success of this innovative, modern design.DSC_2488“We are so proud to have worked with Virgon on ‘Montana’, says Kate. “For this property to have  received such recognition is a testament to Virgon and to the effort they put in to all they create.  They are renowned for incorporating a calibre of product beyond most developers. We particularly love the incredible Cavalier Bremworth carpet that was featured throughout the property (‘Kennedy Point’ in a Picnic Bay shade), and the beautiful oak timber flooring, lovely Italian tiles and the Calacutta marble.  These high end top quality finishes helped to create an award winning design.”D696Thac-12KWD recently completed another Virgon ‘Belle Mar’ design home in Thackray Street, Balwyn North. It proved to be a successful partnership, with Virgon’s quality workmanship and design perfectly complemented by KWD’s specification, sourcing and supply of the most beautiful and functional finishes. The result was a harmonious integration of practicality and luxury.D696Thac-01Kate Walker personally loves working with the Virgon team. Says Kate, “Virgon is a family business headed by brothers John and Renato Virgona and their sister Nancy.  They are an awesome team, and the fact that they are a boutique builder means their customer service and personal attention to detail is first class. They are happy to listen to and take on advice, and they push the finishes for the project above and beyond the norm. There is always a focus on current trends without leaning toward the avante garde.”

D696Thac-02“We love that we work with both Virgon, who design and build the development, and also with Virgon’s clients, to create bespoke hard finishes for each project. Each client chooses the finishes they want – either directly or via Virgon – to ensure every part of the property matches their lifestyle. Our brief is always to ensure that the build has the most incredible finishes with a huge focus on quality.”  D696Thac-09With Thackray St in Balwyn North we worked directly with the client to create hard finishes that suited their lifestyle and their design aesthetic – creating a look for the whole property from the flooring to the joinery design, the colour scheme, the pool tiles and the outdoor stone. Working with the client from start to finish ensured there was a seamless approach and a beautiful result.D696Thac-07If you would like to talk with KWD about your new build or renovation, call the team on (613) 5974 1800 or visit katewalkerdesign.com.au
