PRODUCT IN FOCUS: Travertine

Without question, Travertine is one of the most popular stones used in both ancient and modern architecture. The Romans mined deposits of travertine for building temples, aqueducts, monuments, bathing complexes, and amphitheaters. The Colosseum in Rome is the largest building in the world constructed mostly of travertine.

In 2013 travertine is still used extensively in the overwhelming majority of luxury new homes and renovations. Travertine stone tiles and pavers are generally imported from Turkey, Italy or Iran. They come in a huge range of colours, sizes and finishes – making them look unique in almost every project.

There are various species of Travertine available, from warm chocolate colours, through to cool silvers, and many in between.  Travertine is used both internally and externally, and can be cut into any size required.  Kate Walker of Kate Walker Design has supplied projects ranging from standard sizing of 610×406 to amazing Jumbo French Patterned varieties.  It is a stunning product that can be used from internal areas, flowing through to external.  The varying thicknesses mean that it can be used for general paving onto concrete (12mm thickness) to creating stunning bullnoses for pools and steps of 30mm thickness. The possibilities are endless!

Kate Walker incorporates travertine into many of her luxury residential and commercial projects. She ensures she sources the highest quality travertine whilst remaining price conscious.
