COLOUR, PATTERN & TEXTURE: ELLIOTT CLARKE

Joyful design is built on layers and layers of materiality, texture and tone to create a harmonious pastiche of colour and pattern. It is this synergistic play that creates a soothing and inviting space. Key to the success of any project is the treatment of the walls, ceilings and windows, as well as custom upholstered furniture, decorative cushions and bed heads. Over the years we have worked closely with the team at Elliott Clarke as a trusted source of the most beautiful fabrics and wallpapers that have made a significant impact on our design solutions.

With over 30 years as an industry leader, Elliott Clarke is known for their service excellence and sales integrity. Explains Managing Director, Luke Warwick, “We are committed to stocking a wide array of fabrics that are developed specifically to suit southern hemisphere styles, complemented by international indent textile brands that we exclusively distribute within Australia. This gives our customers the widest array of high quality, luxurious fabrics and wallpapers available.”

With fully appointed showrooms in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and Agents in Western Australia, South Australia and New Zealand, plus dedicated on-road sales representatives, Elliott Clarke continues to go from strength to strength with many exclusive brands such as Alhambra, David Qian Wall Coverings, Lewis & Wood, Michael S Smith, GP & J Baker, Mulberry Fabrics and Anna Spiro Textiles.

In 2020 Luke was proud to launch EC Collective – a new textile agency housed under the Elliott Clarke umbrella. EC Collective focuses on representing smaller, boutique brands for the Australian market. These companies all have unique design elements and create artisanal textiles that are often hand produced. The fabrics and wallcoverings created by these small houses are sought after by designers and editors across the globe and often feature in international interior publications. With the largest textile offering, nation-wide sales teams and excellent customer service, Elliott Clarke is Australia’s premier destination for fabrics and wallpapers.

Jo D’Elia has been working in the design industry for over 33 years, the last 13 of which have been spent representing the beautiful collection of fabrics and wallpapers available through Elliott Clarke. “I love working with the range of designs in the Elliott Clarke collection which has expanded significantly since I first joined them. I work closely with interior designers, decorators, architects, and furniture manufacturers and retailers.

Wallpapers are a significant part of Elliott Clarke’s offering – out of the 40 or so brands we represent, around 24 of them have wallpaper as part of their collections. Quite often the fabric designs will translate directly to wallpaper which helps to create layered and contrasting looks for walls and ceilings to complement window furnishings, bedheads and decorative cushions.

“Wallpaper has really gained traction in recent years with a resurgence in the desire for beautifully patterned interiors, influenced by both American and European design inspiration,” says Jo. “Powder rooms are particularly popular as a room to play with wallpapers, and featuring them on ceilings is gaining in momentum as well. The looks can translate across classic and contemporary styles. Wallpaper makes quite a statement, and although it is relatively simple to replace, it’s an investment that should be considered in context. Grass cloths add a beautiful tonal texture as an alternative for patterns and paint.”

It’s important to note that engaging a professional wallpaper installer is critical, particularly with the more decorative designs and for those wallpapers that have intricate patterns and detailing. KWD loves working with Adrian Griffin from Cutting Edge Wallpapering, whose commitment to excellence, passion for product and attention to detail means we can’t trust in a perfect outcome. Servicing Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, Adrian and his team are wallpaper installation experts with over 25 year’s experience.

Adds Jo, “The lovely thing is that all of my clients have a wide variety of aesthetics, so I have the opportunity to explore such a wide range of designs that complement any architectural or interior style. We are proud to represent several Australian fabric and wallpaper brands, ensuring we support local as well as global designers.”

Elliott Clarke’s generous support of both of the My Happy Space Movement projects was invaluable in bringing our design vision to life.
